Future is Color Candid photos

I got the connect to cover Future is Color in May 2023 through a friend of the organizer / owner, Erwin Hynes. He told me we wanted more photos of the people than the actual performers. Up until this point in my career I had been covering mostly music. Taking candid photos is something I had NEVER done in my (at the time) 5 years of photography. Something I also never thought I would get into. One of my biggest fears is being a lingering person that people have to behave differently around. When people are just hanging out with their friends, drinking, enjoying music, I imagine the last thing they want is a camera pointed at them. Shooting for FIC took me way the hell out of my comfort zone. I thought about quitting and declining future jobs from them. But I did need the money. So I did it, I learned, I failed. But eventually, I found the rhythm. I slowly learned to ignore that fear temporarily (while I was shooting). For me the timing of the shot is everything. I only bring my camera up at the last second. So many techniques I've learned to get closer to a moment so that people are more relaxed until I take the photo.

Im grateful for the opportunity to get the original connect because this gig has drastically improved multiple aspects of my photography. Future is Color is gonna be F- huge, I'm proud that part of that is because of me.
